When the Cat’s Got Your Tongue

I recently helped a client who was carried in by his Mama. The poor thing had not been himself for a couple days. Emaciated from refusing food, this normally robust, hunting feline was lethargic and limp in my arms. Upon examination, his eyes could not focus and would even spread in different directions. His pupils were unequal. He was dehydrated and I was constantly blowing his fur from my lips as it shed in handfuls.

The cat had a cough that sounded deep and dry, yet loose sounding. His breathing was fast. I could see his body pumping up and down as he laid on his side, and I was unsure if it was from difficult breathing, tachycardia, or both.

I could not detect a fever, but then again, finding a fever in cats can be difficult. I did not feel broken limbs but without an x-ray, I was unsure; despite no limping or apparent pain, he could barely walk. I always keep in mind that animals are so good at hiding their ailments, and cats are extremly fragile.

By now, my main concern was for his spine in relation to some kind of neurological incident. But exactly what incident, I had no idea. Maybe he fell out of a tree?

Being as much of an outdoor cat as an indoor cat can be, his owner did not witness what had happened as the cat had a fairly wide territory. Cat-Mommy only had frightening scenarios in her head and, naturally, the cat was not talking much. So I had to be careful about piecing information together to even start a case.

Homeopathically repertorizing the cat based on only facts – the cough, respiration, lethargy, the brilliant, glassy eyes; I gave him Antimonium Tartaricum, which did stop the cough and brought his breathing back to normal, quickly.

But I still did not know what had happened. Was there an injury? Did he fall? A virus? What was the underlying cause?

Well, thankfully, I can do Biofeedback on animals. I have a comfortable mat where the cat could lay while I did a session for him. The homeopathic Ant-t put him at rest so he plopped right down on my mat and peacefully slept while I used biofeedback algorithms to do what I do best, investigate.

After a couple of hours I pieced together what happened to the cat. Even though he couldn’t tell us in words, his body and symptoms, the time of year, observation, other conversations in the town, the biofeedback information, the healing homeopathic remedies, plus the cat’s miraculous comeback would all be pieces to the puzzle that ultimately told us what the cat could not.

The cat had been poisoned. Whether maliciously or accidentally, he had gotten into some kind of chemical. It seemed to be more like fumes and inhalation, rather than actually ingesting something. Once I was able to understand what the cat could not tell us and enter this into my homeopathic repertory, Belladonna became his top remedy. Antimonium Tartaricum, which I had already used, was not far behind; but Belladonna had the intoxication of the mind (the lethargy I was seeing) and also generalities; gasses, fumes, smoke, agg.; as well as the cough.

Indeed, as per the biofeedback, he was emaciated, dehydrated, had a cough with cardiovascular complications, and was neurologically affected by the poisons he took in. When I double checked homeopathics in the session, Belladonna came up number one. Wow! I love it when my homeopathic repertory perfectly matches my biofeedback. I also started detox programs for him to help his body fire up his own immune system.

Once the session was over, I dosed homeopathic Belladonna. The cat was sleepy after this, so he let me use an eye dropper to get fluids into him without fighting me. I just went slow as he was tolerating me well. He rested well.

Over the next couple of days, the cat had a couple more doses of Belladonna 30c, continuous eye dropper water, lots of rest, and he was happier despite not being 100% yet.

At three days, the cat began to walk around some, but spent much more time loafing anywhere he was put rather than walking around. He continued to get water, no appetite, but is happier. Another dose of Bell 30c.

At three days, he can walk normally to the back door and loafs there, dreaming of going back outside. He began eating small amounts of cantaloupe – his favorite soft food. Is in good spirits.

At 4 days, he can jump on the counter, is eating small amounts of his regular food, drinking full amounts of water on his own. Eyes are becoming stable again. On this day, the cat’s Daddy went to the lumber yard and talked to some farmers in the area who had been spraying for weeds and the spray was too strong! They had inhaled it and became very disoriented and lethargic like the cat had become. Hmmm….We wonder….is this related?? It’s very possible. It’s in the cat’s roaming area.

At one week, eyes are stable, diet is normal, he is outside again.

At 10 days, he has his normal routine, he is outside hunting again. He is fattening back up, his hair is no longer falling out.

It has been over 2 weeks and the cat is back to himself again. What a miracle! We also learned through the scan that the cat is beginning to have some kidney issues which can be common with cats. The owner has switched to a water fountain system with filtered water to eliminate total dissolved solids and has also added some parsley ice-cubes which can be really helpful for animal kidney health.

Parsley Ice Cubes: Boil filtered water in a medium sized sauce pan. Turn off. Add one bunch of organic parsley leaves (just cut them off the stems and toss them in). Let this steep for about 10 minutes. Poor into ice-cube trays and freeze. Pop the cubes into your animals water dish. They love the extra cold water and parsley flavor too.

DISCLAIMER: I am not a veterinarian or doctor. I do not diagnose, prescribe, treat, or cure. I do help the body use it’s own innate system to heal itself. If there had been structural damage such as a broken bone or punctured lung, the animal would have been immediately taken to a vet. We had enough room here to see that while those were possibilities, the evidence against them was just as strong. This is a fabulous benefit to the health community because it enables doctors and vets to focus on emergencies the general public cannot help with as we take responsibility for the incidents that we can figure out on our own.

A Twist on the Flu

When clients come to me for the common cold or flu, I typically don’t ask the question, “Have you ever had a head injury?” But after this case, I’m certainly going to start!

A client I have been blessed to work with for a few years came down with what she referred to as a ‘detox’. She said it was lighter than the flu and symptoms weren’t that bad, but they were unusual. Everything centered around this catarrhal pain in her forehead which extended into her teeth and eyes. Her nose was obstructed. She was irritable and her lips were all of a sudden chapped.

She said what was really odd was the dreadful pain in her head that went straight into her eyes and jaw. She never experienced that symptom in the past. I just considered it a typical inflammation of the sinuses that extended into the eyes and teeth, not uncommon.

We gave Bryonia a shot and that did the trick. She slept and when she awoke, she was ready to face the day, and her mood improved drastically. She was her usual mouthy, witty, fun self. She did chores inside her home and even some decorating outside.

Then, that night, her symptoms started to return. Not enough to wreck her sleep, but in the morning all hell seemingly broke lose and she was in so much pain! All of her head inflammation had violently returned directly to the right side of her head, going into her eye and teeth. The pain was excruciating and deep. She said it was so odd because she’s had influenza before and just didn’t recall this catarrhal head pain.

Oddly (maybe miraculously), while we were discussing her case, her daughter came in and placed her ice cold hands on her Mom’s head. The client who was ready to cower at the cold hands instead cried, “wait a minute! This is like ice on my head, my eye, and my jaw and it is bringing me so much relief!”

Hmm. So, easy enough. I thought, cold applications ameliorate.

But then it hit me:

As I said, I have worked with this client for many years and months earlier, during the summer, she had had a nasty head injury where she slammed the left side of her face into her back door. She immediately had black, blue, and purple bruising around her left eye and she was in very bad pain. We used Arnica throughout the day causing her pain to subside and the hideous bruising was gone in less than a week. We also used Nat-Sulph throughout the case, but she healed up so quickly and had no issues what-so-ever. In fact, up until now neither of us had given it a thought.

But, this ‘ice’ that was helping her was so interesting to me! It was as if there was an injury there and so my mind raced back to that head injury several months before.

Could this catarrhal pain be so wretched because of the head injury? I had remembered when the accident happened, despite all the bruising on the left as this is where she struck the door, she said back then that it was more painful on the right and it felt like her entire skull and jaw shifted that direction. Her pain wasn’t just extending into the eyes and teeth, this was inflammation pressing on cranial bones that had been jarred during that summer accident.

We used Arnica 200c and within a half hour she was markedly much better. She was able to get up, move around, was able to do some light chores. By the evening she had totally recovered. There was zero pain in her head, eye, teeth, or jaw. She slept easily and woke up the next day with zero issues.

Who knew Arnica would be used in a case of the flu? Well, you just never know with homeopathy! The key is to ask questions, take excellent notes in the client’s own words, and don’t give up. The best situation is with long term clients where you know their history because this woman had completely forgotten about her head injury as it had seemingly healed up so well.

I did suggest she see her massage therapist who also does cranial sacral work to check those cranial bones. They can be manipulated back into place, but it needs to be done by a cranial sacral therapist.

Score another one for the homeopath!

Hay Fever

I recently had a client so distressed with her hay fever symptoms. She contacted me early in the morning, in tears and in pain. Pain from hay fever you ask? Yes. She had pain in her head from sinus swelling which she could also feel in her teeth. She had pain around her eyes from rubbing them so much that she could no longer touch the skin. She was sobbing as she told me about her problems and her flowing tears were burning her eyes. Her nose was running like mad but last night it was so stuffed up that she couldn’t even breathe.

Despite feeling very far away from her normal self, she was perfectly describing a very nice Hay Fever case. Her remedy? We used Nat Mur 200c and in minutes she was back to her old self. Her nose was clear, no itching eyes with burning tears. Her head and teeth pain were completely gone. She was no longer weeping and sobbing as she thought about her symptoms. Instead, she was mind blown at how wonderful she felt now. Recounting her symptoms did not make her sad, it made her elated that she was now free from them!

I love such beautiful cases like this.

Are you suffering from Hay Fever? Give homeopathy a try! Every case is different and Nat Mur will only work when it is homeopathically correct to the case. If you need a homeopath to help sort your symptoms contact me at New Leaf Holistic.

A Return to Mental Wellness

Recently a client of mine with autism spiraled into a very bizarre mixed state of schizophrenia, dementia, and psychosis, all wrapped into one hot mess. Only a psych professional would have been able to determine the exact diagnosis as so many symptoms were present: auditory hallucinations, delusions, irrational phobias, stammering and stuttering; they were all interfering with her life. There was also a clear decline in concentration and memory.

A functional doctor was contacted and the staggering prices of blood testing alone sent them to me with questions. I investigated the types of tests and felt I may be able to unearth some information via biofeedback. It was worth a try anyway. Ironically, at the same time, I had already been doing some deep dives into brain stress as it relates to biofeedback as well as attending some lectures on reactivated infections. It’s funny how things work like that. God seemed to already be preparing me.

Using biofeedback, I could determine there was a very high possibility of parasite activity. Which kind of parasite, I specifically could not say. I do not diagnose, treat, prescribe, mitigate, or cure any disease. Biofeedback doesn’t even work in that realm. It was clear, however, that the energetic stress caused by probable parasite activity could be reduced. We met twice a week for a month to reduce this stress.

What happened next was amazing!

After about two weeks, new stresses popped out, like daylight. Talk about peeling back that notorious onion! The client’s history, especially with Lyme and PANDAS, alongside the physical symptoms she was experiencing were perfect matches to the mathematical probabilities indicated by biofeedback. It became obvious that several reactivated viruses were producing her dis-ease not only physically, but especially on the mental, emotional, and spiritual planes. We used homeopathy and biofeedback to naturally address these issues, improving the wellness of the immune system so that the body could heal the stress of these viruses on its own. With this combo not only were we were able to get her back on her feet, but also back to her right mind.

The client had a made a time-line of how this illness impacted her life. When we started working together, the dis-ease had already been debilitating her for about a year and a half. She actually traced it back to a semester at a small college where she either picked up on a virus that reactivated old ones OR the stress from a class brought on the illness AND, there was also a frightening run-in with a hypocritical, out of control neighbor with anger issues which led to her losing her therapy animal. This event negatively impacted the entire family, not just my client. Since we know that stress is the underlying cause of at least 80% of illness (from the NIH), my hunch is that these emotional stressors were enough to impact this very sensitive, young lady with autism.

When you follow the time-line, the issues, and her age, it perfectly aligns with the onset of schizophrenia. It’s easy to see why the family was so scared! They were planning to uproot their lives in the country thinking they may need to be in the city if their daughter needed to be in a group home. She certainly could not continue college in the state she was in. They were literally watching their whole life fall apart.

After three months of work together, the client is about 80% back to herself. This is such an astounding rebound! She is able to enjoy her studies, her friends, and life at the University again. Her memory is improving; stuttering and stammering is gone. Most delusions are gone; some still linger, but she is better able to use mental exercises to determine whether the delusions are rational or not. Her fear is markedly reduced. There are still some involuntary jerks, tics, and verbal noises, but they are also reduced. We continue to see evidence of viral illness coming up and out as we focus to improve the immune system and reduce the stress surrounding viral reactivation. My client’s life gets better every day. The family is no longer fearful of mental disease since they see her clear improvement. Chiropractic care and counseling to teach cognitive behavioral therapy were also suggestions I made to the family.
